Reading the Findings
A conclusion pulled from data is only as good as the context around it. Sample size, time period, what was measured, what was left out — all of it changes how you should treat the answer.
These materials focus on that reading skill: spotting limits, catching overstatements, keeping a healthy pause before turning a chart into a decision.
Descriptive format. Not a course in critical thinking, more a nudge toward it.
Data Fundamentals
Picture a shelf full of receipts, spreadsheets, photos, sensor logs. All of it counts as data — the question is what kind, and how people bring order to the pile.
These starter texts walk through the vocabulary: rows vs. records, numbers vs. categories, why structure matters before anything else.
Format-wise, expect plain introductions. Short explanations, a few examples, nothing heavy.
Tools Landscape
Spreadsheets, notebooks, dashboards, query languages — the space is crowded, and every team seems to have its own favorite mix.
The overview groups tools by what they're for rather than by brand. Once the categories click, picking one later becomes a much smaller decision.
No step-by-step guides here. Just a map of the terrain so the names stop sounding random.
Charts and How to Read Them
A bar chart, a line, a scatter plot — each one answers a different question. Pick the wrong shape and you mislead your audience without meaning to.
These texts go through the common chart types and the small choices (axis, scale, color) that decide whether a picture tells the truth or bends it.
Introductory in tone. You get the reasoning, not a tutorial in any specific software.
Statistics Without the Formulas
Mean, median, spread, correlation — the ideas are simpler than the notation suggests, and most people already use them by instinct when they compare prices or check the weather.
The overview here sticks to intuition. What the numbers mean, when they mislead, how a single outlier can shift the whole story.
Reading is short and general. Enough to talk about results without pretending to be a statistician.
